Flying the simulator with a high degree of realism requires that you update the FS navaids and magnetic variation database. The FS navaids and magnetic variation data are now somewhat outdated. This page will give you access to updates I performed, mainly for my personal use, and sites that provide valuable information for properly updating FS data.

The Updated Magvar data package provides an updated set of Magdec.bgl files (2005 & 2010) for FS9 and FSX. New values have been calculated according to the exact IGRF-10/11 mathematical model at epox 2005/2010. Replacing the default magdec.bgl file with one of those provided in this package will result in a much better fit between FS displayed headings and current documentation data (runway, ILS and procedure headings). Install instructions are included.

The Updated Magnetic Variation data package provides an updated set of Magdec.bgl files (2016) for FS9, FSX and P3D. New values have been calculated according to the exact IGRF-12 mathematical model at epox 1/1/2016. Replacing the default magdec.bgl file with the one provided in this package will result in a much better fit between displayed headings and current documentation data (runway, ILS and procedure headings). Install instructions are included.
