Shouldn't the assignments be a round trip?
On January I got the following, all the others are round trips

Yes, the assignments are 98% of the time a round trip (2% is for the rare case an error occurs or if the manager forgot to enter a return flight).
They are also based on the unique schedule's id and if that id changes for any reason (for example due to complete schedule updating), then the assignment cease to exist.
And that's the main reason they are called monthly assignments and not yearly, their purpose is to give each and every month motivation to pilots to fly, to present a clear flight choice and to give the feeling of pilot's duty. If the month passes by, new assignments are given no matter if the past assignments were completed or not.
Also, the assignment you are referring to is from June (thus the number 1606) and not from January.
