Airport Briefing - EGLC London City

Post by OAL269 Kyprianos Biris »

London City EGLC is the base of OAV Executive Corporare Jets

Briefing:

Both runways 09 & 27 are approached with a 5.5 degrees steep ILS.
The runway is only 1.508m long and is built on flattened docks of old London surrounded by waterways.
Just 2,5 DME west of the airport, Canary Wharf, Docklands, skyscraper rises to 806ft. AGL being a significant hazard for the ILS09 or runway 27 departures.

Approach is executed with an NDB & DME teardrop outbound leg or hold racetrack based on airport LCY NDB and ILS DME flying level at 2.000ft.
Final steep descent with 5,5* glideslope starts at 3,4 DME on the Localizer.
Arrivals and departures remain at low altitudes (2~3,000ft) due to overhead intense traffic arriving and departing to/from Heathrow EGLL.
The procedure must be flown with great accuracy due to London city (town) VERY close proximity and (real) very strict noise abatement procedures based on which the Environmental permit of the (real) airport remains in effect.

Flight Plan Alternate: EGKB Biggin Hill

Our Corporate jets park at the west GA apron extension parking positions 11 & 12.

ATC:
Expect Approach radar service by THAMES APP (Thames Approach) which handles EGLC and EGKB traffic when on line otherwise by LON_S_CTR or LON_CTR when on line.
Sectors of LON CTR http://www.vatsim-uk.co.uk/area-sectors/
EGLL_APP does not handle EGLC traffic.

P3D Scenery:
UK2000 is incompatible.
Use freeware one.

IMPORTANT replacement files for UK2000 EGLC
DOWNLOAD and perform easy installation of:
UK2000_London_City_Xtreme_KB_Update.rar
Changes from UK2000 original:
- Misaligned ILS Rwy 27 Localizer properly realigned
- Moved reference points of "UKL2" fake airport further east and "EGLC" further west so that Eaglesoft Cessna Citation X FMS does not recognize UKL2 as departure (closest) ICAO.

Other reference:
London Executive Aviation (LEA) was the first corporate aviation company in early 2000's to lead the certification and gain access of small jets in this airport which until then was only accessible by Dash7 and BAe146/Avro RJ due to the environmental restrictions.
Their airport office is situated at the building right in front of the GA apron (you can see the sign in UK2000 scenery).
Later other companies followed with NetJets being one of the most frequent visitors alongside LEA.

The core of our operation and destinations was based on these two companies when OAV Executive was being set up.
Real pilots from both companies provided us inside information with key details on their procedures to specific airports many of which today are in OAV Executive destinations list.
