As most of you know every airport has a declared capacity, which states the maximum number of movements (takeoffs and landings) that can take place, usually in a per-hour basis. Capacity is determined by many factors, such as ATC limitations, runway characteristics, apron area, terminal passenger facilities etc. For Eleftherios Venizelos airport (LGAV) capacity is 22 takeoffs and 22 landings per hour. Naturally when maximum capacity numbers are reached the airport is functioning at a very fast and pressing rate, stressing the whole air traffic system in its vicinity.
In this event we invite you to help us try and surpass the official capacity limits of LGAV by flying to/from this airport during a 6-hour period. The event, LGAV Overload, takes place on February 8 2014, between 1400 and 2000Z. Another unique characteristic of this event is the fact that it takes place at the premises of the (real) Athens Air Traffic Control Center, just meters apart from the real ATCOs! HvACC will provide its group of determined real and virtual ATCOs who will coordinate the event from a single room.
