Backtrack on runway

Hi,
Last summer I was at Skiathos for my vacation and as you can imagine I spent most of my time at the airport. While I was watching I had a question. Most of the a/c after backtracking on the runway they used a clockwise turn to line up but I noticed a couple of them using an anticlockwise turn to do so. So my question is. Is there any rule conserning the turn, maybe mentioned on maps or it is up to the pilot to decide which one to use?

Thanks

On the FCOMs of some aircraft I have read the procedure dictates left or right turn depending on whether the Captain or the FO is PF. But of course a real world colleague could enlighten us better on the issue..

From Jeppesen's LGSK Airport page:

Pilots who read this chart u-turn the proper way (clockwise) but still the responsibility of best option lies to the pilot.
For some other reason some may be u-turning anticlockwise.

I guess the main reason is the bystanders very close to the fence !
